INTRODUCTION
Lighting Sciences Inc., offers the world's most advanced independent facilities for the evaluation of lighting products. since 1979, LSI test reports have been accepted as the highest standard of U.S. industry. Testing by LSI provides:
Independent verification of product performance.
Reports to indicate compliance with federal and other specifications.
Compliance reports for overseas manufacturers.
Database files of product photometric characteristics for use in computerized lighting design.
Reporting in industry standard formats to allow product comparisons.
Smaller manufacturers who cannot justify complete testing facilities use LSI Laboratories as-needed to provide product documentation. Larger manufacturers with in-house testing laboratories use LSI as a basis to verify the accuracy of their own facilities, and for independent product literature.
Accuracy and Traceability
Photometric testing by LSI is performed using a wide range of equipment which is calibrated traceable to the US National Institute of Standards and technology (NIST). As US government testing contractors, LSI is subject to random inspection to confirm:
Adherence to required test procedures.
Calibration accuracy and frequency.
Skilled level of personnel.
Accurate data processing facilities and procedures.
Detailed and competent record keeping.
Testing to the highest level of industry standards thus is mandatory at LSI. This has allowed LSI to qualify for testing services for:
NASA.
US Federal Highway Administration.
National Highway Transport Safety Administration, DOT.
Federal Aviation Administration.
US Army.
Naval Sea Systems Command.
Commercial Companies, large and small.
TEST EQUIPMENT
LSI's in-house equipment includes:
Rotating Mirror Goniophotometer (2). Used to characterizes the light distribution and efficiencies of lighting products.
CIE Type A Goniometer or "Light Tunnel" with 100 foots test distance. Used for automotive devices, traffic signals, reflex reflectors, aviation lighting and many other applications.
Spectrophotometer. Measures spectral color analysis; color rendering index. CIE chromatically, spectral power distribution curves.
Telephotometer Luminance Meter. For precision spot measurements of photometric brightness.
Flash Photometer. Used for the measurement of pulsed light sources for integrated energy.
Environmental Chamber. Used for the testing of devices under low and high temperatures and varying levels of humidity.
Integrating Sphere. To determine total lumen output of lamps, and mean spherical candlepower.
Specialized electrical parameters under both start-up and operating conditions.
Computer Facilities. A vast array of hardware, software and test equipment electronic interfaces to combine maximum speed and test accuracy with extensive reporting capabilities.
Lighting Sciences' laboratories set the standard for testing of lighting devices for the United States and Canada. In addition, test equipment manufactured by Lighting Sciences Inc. is used in facilities throughout the world, by government and corporations. LSI provides "Excellence in Photo metrics" on a worldwide basis.
