COLUMN SECTIONS
All
column sections are fabricated from light-weight high strength structural
aluminum alloy. The all-welded construction insures easy handling and
eliminates the loss of small bolted pieces, such as diagonal bracing.
Column sections are available in 7, 14 and 21 foot sections, weighing
270, 415 and 565 lbs. respectively. Each column section is proof tested to
65,000 lbs. compression to insure reliability.
Locating pins and alignment holes are provided in each flanges end plate to simplify assembly and erection.
Close tolerance fixture and controlled fabrication procedures insure the uniformity and compatibility of tower sections.
Precision manufacturing and 100% inspection insures straight columns, as shown by this 150ft. 90 degree dead-end structure.
GIMBAL JOINTS
The
patented Lindsey Gimbal Joint minimizes column eccentricity and eliminates
torsional loading due to its three axis rotation capability. The Gimbal
Joint can be locked rigid for storage, handling and transportation ease.
Fabricated primarily from structural aluminum, with galvanized steel pivot
members, the Gimbal weighs only
550lbs.
The
Gimbal joint rotates 90 degrees in the four major axes, allowing horizontal
column assembly. Once assembled horizontally, cranes, helicopters or winch
lines can be used to tilt the column into position, using the Gimbal as a pivot.
