STANDARD TEST FINGERS AND PROBES

This data sheet gives details and dimensions of standard test fingers, probes and similar devices for use in testing for protection against electrical, mechanical and thermal hazard due to contact through openings in electrical equipment and accessories.

Flexible Test Finger - Latest Versions of IEC 529, Fig. 1

This is used to ensure that ventilation holes or other openings of electrical equipment does not give access to hazardous electrical or moving mechanical parts to the human finger.  The finger is made of steel and the handle of insulation material.  At the top of the handle a banana terminal can be connected to sense electrical contact with the test finger.

Rigid Test Finger

The Rigid Test Finger is used in combination with the Flexible Test Finger.  It is used to test access to hazardous electrical or moving mechanical parts through openings of equipment by applying a specified force according to the applicable standard.  The Rigid Test Finger is a straight metal finger similar to the human finger.  At the top of the handle, a force gauge is mounted to control the applied force.  Reading scale is 0-5kg (0-50N).

Test Pin, Short and Long

The Short Test Pin (15mm) is intended to be inserted into all holes in insulation material and unearthed metal parts of Class II appliances to prove the inaccessibility of all live parts.  The Long Test Pin (50mm) is intended to be used for the same purpose as the short pin, but in those equipment or appliances requiring a more onerous test.
